MBCT is an 8 week course which combines the principles of mindfulness and cognitive science to treat repeated occurrences of depression, chronic anxiety, low mood and general unhappiness. MBCT teaches you to become more aware of your thoughts and feelings, especially those that might trigger depression, and to adopt a non-judgmental, accepting attitude toward them. By learning to observe your mental patterns without getting caught up in them, you can break the cycle of depression and reduce the risk of relapse. The program typically involves group sessions and includes meditation, breathing exercises, and cognitive exercises.
MBCT was developed by Dr. Zindel Segal, Dr. Mark Williams, and Dr. John Teasdale in 2002. Their work built upon the foundations laid by Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and aimed specifically at preventing the recurrence of depression.
I offer this in a one-on-one coaching style format.
